Maryam’s Keenly Observed Facts of Life (Part 76)

Things only get worse over time so if you’ve got a bad habit that you’re hoping to have converted into a good habit by the time you reach 60, you’re best placed to start now. Bad habits only get worse as you get older.

  1. The saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” comes to mind. Youth is the best time to inculcate the lifestyle and habits you aspire to. And I can personally attest to the fact that change gets harder as you get older. In my early 20s, it was so much easier – but now, in my late 20s, it’s wayyyy harder.

Changes also can’t be vague aspirations. You can’t sit on your ass for years making no effort to change, then plan to change “someday”.

Like go-getters (me not being one of them) will tell you, goals need to be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely).

And anyway – no one knows if they’ll live to 60 – let alone the next week, even.

  2. @Dreamlife: Salam! Ramadhan Kareem! 🙂 and yes i totally agree with you. How’s bubs??

@abu: HI!!! You found me! Not that I went anywhere 🙂

And yeah you’re right the point is to NOT make the bad habits in the first place.

  3. Walaikum salaam; Ramadah kareem to you and your family too. She’s ok – other than cold-symptoms (runny nose etc) which refuse to go away. Her energy and craziness is a stark contrast from last Ramadaan – when she was only a few days old.
